Lesson’s Learned – One-Year
Edition
1. Amy and I often “break the mold” on parenting…actually, I am
beginning to realize that there really isn’t a mold to begin with.
2. Anna has 18-month legs and a
9-month butt.
3. Bruno Mars, Will I Am, Usher,
and One Direction already have some kind of magical hold on Anna’s heart.
4. Television shows targeted at
children have subliminal advertising or hypnotic features built in…it is the
only explanation as to why Amy and I still watch them after Anna has gone to
take a nap.
5. Sesame Street songs stick in your head…for a long, long time. These songs pop in your head at the most random (often most inappropriate) times.
6. I never thought I would wipe/wash a “poopy” butt with my hand and be okay with it. (Anna gets bad diaper rash when we use wipes.)
7. I never thought I would consistently get up at 7 am. It is amazing how I can still sleep through my alarm (if it ever has a chance to go off), but wake up to Anna in a hurry. (Anyone who has ever roomed with me will understand this better than most)
8. It may take 20 minutes to pick up and clean up the family room/play room, but just a few seconds for Anna to return it to her preferred state.
9. Anna takes her sleep seriously…very, very seriously.
10. That big smile Anna gives me when I walk in the door or pick her up at daycare can wipe any bad day away in a hurry.
11. It is reassuring to see how much Anna LOVES daycare each day when I drop her off.
12. It is possible for the only girl (and essentially the youngest) at daycare to be the daycare bully.
13. People have a really hard time just being content with where you are…everyone wants to move on to the next big thing/milestone and just simply cannot enjoy the moment.
14. It has been easier for me to understand God’s unconditional love for us, once I had my own child.
15. It is hard to explain the joy you get as a parent to watch your child learn, explore, grow, and develop.
